Frequently Asked Questions

What type of photography do you shoot?

I specialize in portrait photography, shooting mainly seniors, couples, bridals and family portraits. I have a lifestyle approach which allows for more interaction between family members.

Where will the session be?

I prefer on-location; meaning a favorite location for you and your loved ones, Grandma’s backyard, your neighbors cabin or a type of location you’d like me to help you find – the options are endless.  I do have several to offer and am always on the hunt for new, unique locations.

What is the best time to schedule a session?

For outdoor portraits, the morning starting at 7:30 or late afternoon/evening with light 2 hours before sunset are the most flattering. Midday sun is harsh, but if there is sufficient shade (such as tree cover) we can do the session any time of the day.  For indoor portraits it depends on the layout of the home and where the light comes in the most. Studio lighting is available for indoor portraits. *Most importantly, select a time of day when the children of the family are well rested and fed beforehand. Its better to schedule the session when everyone will be the happiest even if it means less than ideal lighting conditions.

How long does a session last?

Length depends on the type of session, but it can go from 1 to 2 hours depending on number of stops needed especially when working with young children. It is critical to give warm up time so that smiles are genuine and not forced.

What should we wear?

Its really up to you, but I understand that this can be a very frustrating task. Jeans are always good, and darker the better. For families, please don’t match in a uniform fashion- dress each individual in outfits that compliment each other (by selecting a color scheme) and typically using one item to plan around (such as Dad’s shirt or your favorite skirt). Mix patterns, textures, colors and accessories for an interesting a creative look.  Don’t forget about the shoes! Even if you think they won’t show, they usually do so make sure they work with the outfit too. Clothing changes are great! But with families it is best to leave it to 1 or 2 changes since kids get fussy with the changing.

Here are two visual examples of family outfits that coordinate and not match. Picking 3 colors is a great start to work with.  Even picking a theme can really make your images fun and memorable.

What should I have on hand for the shoot?

If you plan on being photographed in more than one outfit, please bring the alternate outfit(s) for everyone in the portrait as well as appropriate shoes. If you have a baby or toddler, bring anything that you may need to keep them happy and clean. For kids of all ages, feel free to bring a favorite toy, doll, instrument or hobby item that they would like included in the portrait.

How much does everything cost?

That depends on the type of session and products purchased, session rates start at $150 and print collections start at $200.  Average clients invest between $300 and $600 in their custom photography.

Do you shoot weddings?

Not at this time. I am willing to assist other photographers or be there for extra coverage for your event. I do shoot engagements and bridals.
